1924 Singer Model 99
I serviced one of these, dated 1935, for a friend of mine (left in a home, by prior owner, she and hubby bought) and she absolutely loves it. According to her, it runs like a dream. She uses it for quilting and making clothes for her family. The hole in the front of the base is for a 'leg lever controller', which I don't see in the photos unless it is the top of the lid where there should be a place for it (lever) to be stored. Though an antique, these old Singers can still be usable even if they're weighty. They can be rewired and/or the motor replaced as parts can be found on ebay.com. Vintage, heavy sewing machines were made to be used also for future generations. They're still here and being used by thousands around the world. I have 14 of the larger heavy and two 221FW,vintage machines and plan to keep and use them for a long time as 90+ percent of sewing is done with straight stitching. Newer machines may have a lot of fancy stitches, but of my newer machines, I barely use only 1 or two. If well cared for (keep them clean & oiled), this machine and others like it could last well on into future generations of sewers. Excellent, excellent machines.
